Meramec Ambulance District Brings First-Ever Life-Saving Cyanide PoisoningTreatment Program to Franklin County

For the first time, first responders in Franklin County will have immediate access to a life-
saving treatment for suspected cyanide poisoning during emergency incidents.
Meramec Ambulance District is proud to announce the deployment of Cyanokits®
throughout its emergency response system in partnership with Boles Fire Protection
District and Pacific Fire Protection District. This marks the first time this critical treatment
capability has been available in Franklin County, significantly enhancing emergency care
for residents and visitors.
A Cyanokit is a specialized antidote used to treat suspected cyanide poisoning, a life-
threatening condition that can occur during exposure to smoke from structure fires,
industrial incidents, and hazardous materials emergencies. Cyanide exposure can rapidly
cause severe breathing problems, altered mental status, cardiovascular collapse, and
cardiac arrest. Early recognition and treatment are critical to improving survival. With this deployment, trained emergency personnel in Franklin County can administer this life-saving medication sooner, providing patients with the best possible chance of recovery when every minute matters.
This milestone reflects the continued commitment of Meramec Ambulance District, Boles
Fire Protection District, and Pacific Fire Protection District to bringing advanced emergency
medical capabilities to the communities they serve. By working together, these agencies
continue to raise the standard of emergency care while strengthening the safety of both the
public and the first responders who protect them.
