Over the past year, we have reflected on a moment that challenged not only our district, but our entire community. It has now been one year since the tornado struck our Station 2 in Villa Ridge, which also served as our district headquarters. That storm left a lasting impact—not just on our facilities, but on the residents, families, and businesses we are proud to serve.
Just three weeks after that event, our community was asked to place its trust in us once again as Proposition A appeared on the ballot. Because of your confidence in our mission and your belief in the services we provide, Meramec Ambulance District successfully passed its very first bond initiative. That support has not been taken lightly.
As promised, the funding from Proposition A is being used to ensure our emergency response services remain strong, reliable, and prepared to meet the growing needs of our district. In this past year, we have worked diligently to finalize blueprints and plans to rebuild Station 2—restoring it as our headquarters while also incorporating a new training facility to better prepare our crews for the future.
In addition, we are finalizing plans for our future Station 4, which remains slated for the corner of Old Manchester Road and Little Tavern. We are approaching the next phase of this project, with anticipated bidding and contractor selection expected to take place in May and June of 2026.
While these large-scale construction projects are exciting milestones, we have also remained committed to improving our existing infrastructure. Stations 1 and 3 will soon receive critical updates and repairs, ensuring that all of our facilities reflect the same level of readiness and reliability our community deserves.
At our most recent Board of Directors meeting, we were proud to receive unanimous approval to include a Safe Haven Baby Box at the new Station 2. This state-of-the-art device will provide a safe, secure, and anonymous option for mothers in crisis to surrender a newborn. It is another step forward in our commitment to protecting life and supporting our community in meaningful ways. We are incredibly grateful to have a Board that continually supports initiatives that promote a safer and healthier future.
Through Proposition A funding, we have also begun replacing critical frontline medical equipment. This includes the purchase of new LUCAS devices—automated CPR systems—for our first-out ambulances. These replacements ensure that our crews have dependable, up-to-date tools when seconds matter most. As we move forward, we will continue to responsibly replace aging cardiac monitor/defibrillators and ventilators, balancing fiscal responsibility with our commitment to providing the highest standard of care.
None of this progress would be possible without the continued support of our community. We remain committed to transparency, accountability, and delivering on every promise we have made.
As we look ahead, we do so with gratitude, purpose, and a renewed commitment to serving you—today, tomorrow, and for years to come.
With gratitude,
Taz Meyer, Chief
Meramec Ambulance District
