On September 26, 2009, Meramec personnel particpated in Jefferson County Fire Engine Rally. This annual event took place at the Herculaneum Fairgrounds and showcased many different fire apparatus and EMS vehicles. Meramec 8517 won "best Overall EMS Vehicle Design". Paramedic Dale Kinnard won first place in the "White Castle Burger Eating Contest." Paramedic Kinnard ate 8 White Castle burgers in 2 minutes.
